Most of our Information Evenings have been held (except for Years 9 and 10 families), facilitating the communication of essential information and promoting interaction between staff and parents/students. Well done to the parents who attended and for their keen interest in the learning programs and activities. Special appreciation to the teachers for hosting these helpful occasions.

Student Voice is an important part of our School community at RJ. We offer students opportunity to be involved in leadership development through various activities and portfolios as well as invite those who are interested in advocating for their peers to join the Student Forum.

Our new Secondary Student Forum members were nominated this week with badging to be done at Assembly in Week 6. The Primary Student Forum members were announced and badged at the Primary Assembly last week.

The role of members of the Student Forum is as follows:

Year 5 Camp

On Monday 11 February, Year 5 set off on a 2-day adventure to Teen Ranch Camp. There was much excitement in the air, and maybe some nerves too, but we were ready for a new experience! Over the two days, Year 5 faced their fears on the Giant Swing, showed their teamwork in Crate Climbing, learnt about the focus required for Archery and deepened their relationship with God. With the support from their peers, teachers and Ranch Leaders, students learnt about their strengths and how to overcome obstacles.

Here’s what Year 5 had to say about their time at Camp:

Year 6 Camp

On Monday 11 February, Year 6 went on a three day Camp to Teen Ranch at Cobbitty. Here are some of their favourite memories of Camp:

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

Year 11 returned from Stanwell Tops and the Study Camp on Friday afternoon, tired but ready for the challenges that lie ahead. We considered not just the skills needed for the successful completion of Stage 6, but ways they could also prepare themselves for the world of work and life beyond school, beginning by the way they managed social media and their own personal presentation. While some felt daunted, knowing that Years 11 and 12 are the final two years of life at RJ, many discussed how the feeling of “family” was already being created in Home Groups and understood the importance of supporting and challenging one another as pressures increased. In a range of activities, they worked as a team to encourage one another to take risks on the Tree Line, abseil the cliff or defeat the Survivor course. I’m looking forward to seeing how Year 11 will develop as individuals and as a cohort as the year progresses!

Year 12 Industry Excursion

This Term, Year 12 Industrial Technology students had the opportunity to visit and study the operations of a local industry. As part of their studies of industry, students learn about manufacturing techniques and the management of Industrial businesses. Mr Harrison accompanied students to INTERFAR custom made furniture and joinery, where they were given a tour of the business by Mr Shane Gallard.

Year 9 and Year 10 Secondary Student Leaders

One of the exciting Service learning and Leadership opportunities for students in the Secondary Section is the chance to be a student leader on the Primary Camps. Along with serving in this way, the students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, support the teachers on the Camp as well as help the Primary students to have a wonderful time.

AFL AFTERSCHOOL CLINIC

Secondary Sports Report

I can’t believe we are in Week 4 already. We had a great way to start the sport calendar with our annual Years 3 – 12 Swimming Carnival. An amazing turnout of 654 created a sea of colour for each House area. The day was full of fun and competition across all the Houses. We had both the 50m pool and 25m pool running many activities throughout the day. A big thank you to all staff and students who made the day run so well. Primary Zone is this week (Thursday) at Glenbrook Pool and the Secondary Zone will be at Mt Druitt Pool (Thursday 7 March). Students who made the RJAS Secondary Zone Swimming Team will be notified early next week and receive notes to attend this event.
