From the Principal

The online NAPLAN test requirements cause considerable pressures on the School community, as we seek to implement the tests smoothly so that students can demonstrate their true capabilities. Our staff did extremely well during recent weeks to cope with not only the expected challenges but also deal with unexpected connectivity issues. The authorities responsible (i.e. ACARA and NESA) have apologised to Australian schools for those issues. The RJ staff have been wonderful in addressing each problem as it arose and practically assisted each student to successfully complete the tests. Any student who experienced a problem was supported well and, as a result, demonstrated patience and increased resilience. Well done to all involved.

School shoes should be polished, boys should be wearing their black belts, girls should have their hair tied back and both boys and girls should be wearing their ties and scarfs respectively.

In Week 3, students in 2J introduced us to John the Baptist. John faithfully promoted Jesus as the Saviour and baptised in His name. 2J sang beautifully about being friends with Jesus. National Simultaneous Storytime replaces Primary Assembly this week at the Oakhurst Campus. In Week 5, 2R will present an Assembly Item. Parents of the presenting class are welcome to attend Primary Assemblies. House Meetings replace Primary Assemblies in Week 6.

Year 2 Toys Incursion

On Thursday 9 May, Year 2 had an incursion all about toys from the past and toys from the present. Pontus from Supreme Incursions told us some stories about how different toys were made, like the Slinky and Frisbees. He showed us a range of old toys; some were over 50 years old! After that, we got to play with lots of different toys.

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

NAPLAN testing has been a large focus of the past week, especially for Years 7 and 9, and the testing has been complicated by the increasing number of students sitting the testing online across Australia. Consequently, ACARA (through NESA) has deemed that students who experienced disruptions on Tuesday 14 May, could be given the opportunity to re-sit the Writing Test (as this was the only test we did on that day). This is only for those students who experienced significant disruptions, and the impact on our students was reasonably limited. Any disruption is “off-putting”, but students and staff were able to manage the problems in a mature manner. Catch-up testing will be done this week.
