From the Principal

From the Acting Principal

Welcome back to Term 3. I trust your children had a refreshing break over the holidays from the daily routine of school and are ready to tackle the second half of the year with more vigour. Mr Cockrem, who has been on an extended break, will return to us at the beginning of Week 3 this term. I’m sure we will all welcome his renewed energy and vision as we head into the rest of the year.

CRU Blast 2019

What a great week we had at CRU Blast this year!!! During the final week of the recent School holidays, 90 Primary School aged students from Richard Johnson and other Christian schools enjoyed a terrific week long CRU Blast Day Camp facilitated by Crusaders (a Christian Schools Ministry Organisation) along with St Mark’s Anglican Church Oakhurst and our School.

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

We finished last term with an amazing celebration of the cultural heritage of our students with the OzTag Final on Heritage Day, plus a wide array of food stalls and a vibrant, colourful and somewhat “exhausting” concert to complete the festival atmosphere.

40 Hour Famine Backpack Challenge

The 40 Hour Famine Backpack Challenge is back bigger than ever. Students from our School are joining thousands of others across Australia as they stand up to the biggest humanitarian crisis of our generation: The refugee and displaced persons crisis. Globally, there are more than 70.8 million people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict. More than half of them are children.

Aprons - Change in Procedure

Over the past few years, our School’s Food Assistants (who also have other administrative roles in the School Office) have been washing class sets of aprons after each practical lesson, drying them and folding them ready for the next class.

National Science Week

Week 3 is National Science Week, and we are getting ready for a week of space, the moon and fun! Throughout the week, students in Years 7-10 will take part in a range of space-based activities across a variety of subjects.

Youth Off the Streets Winter Sleepout

Over 160 intrepid students from Years 6-12 and 9 teachers braved the cool weather (4.0oC) and sleeping on the concrete of the Primary Courtyard to participate in the Youth off the Streets Winter Sleepout. In doing so, the students experienced, to a small degree, the harsh reality of homelessness.

Year 11 Art Course

Mr Cockrem, Mrs Miggins and Mr Bemrose would like to congratulate Year 11 Art students Shaalee Manlapid, Gabriel Munoz and Suraksha Singh, on their selection to attend the National Art School for a HSC Intensive Studio Practice Course.

Year 12 English Studies Excursion

As part of the Unit of study "We are Australian", the Year 12 English Studies class attended an excursion to Blacktown Council.

From the P&F Association

Can you donate Auction & Hamper Items?

The Fete is fast approaching and at the next P & F Assoc. meeting on Tuesday 20 August @ 7pm in the The Hub (Secondary Library at the Oakhurst Campus), the parent community will continue to plan and organise this fantastic fundraising activity and community event.

The more items that are donated, the bigger and better the Hampers will be, and the more funds raised.

Your help and support is very much appreciated as these fundraising monies will be used to purchase valuable equipment and learning resources for our children.

Jaclyn Golding & Catherine Lucas

School Banking

Please note that there will be no school banking on Thursday 8 August.

Road Safety Reminders for Parents

  • Remind your children STOP, Look and Listen and Think before they step out on the road. This includes on pedestrian crossings and at traffic lights.
  • Anyone riding a bike or a scooter needs to wear a helmet and make sure that it is fastened firmly. This will reduce the injuries to their head if they fall off.
  • Make sure that everyone is buckled up in the car. Our local highway patrol report that many children are not buckled into in the correct car seats or the seats are not strapped into the car correctly. For more information or to find out about car seat checking events contact the Road Safety Officer at Blacktown Council.
  • Please obey parking restrictions around the school. No Stopping signs or continuous yellow lines mean you cannot stop in that area. This is to make sure that traffic can keep moving in narrow areas or to keep pedestrian crossings and intersections free so that vehicles and pedestrians can see each other.

With your help we can keep everyone safe on the way to and from school.
