We’ve been praying for our Year 12 students doing their Trial HSC Exams and look forward to the HSC Showcase of Major Works in Art, Textiles and Technologies such as Timber, Design and Technology, as well as Software Design and Technology, together with major performances in Music and Drama. This annual event is always wonderful; it's great to see the hard work, creativity and skills demonstrated by our students. Why not come along to enjoy this special occasion on Wednesday 21 August.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

I have often received comments questioning whether teenagers can really be effective leaders. Some have suggested that students cannot lead very well because they are too young and state that leadership comes with age and experience. Yet, others would probably disagree.

Primary Matters

From the Head of Primary

Parents will have already read in the Principal’s Report in the RJ Review that I will be solely based at the Marsden Park Campus from 2020. It was extremely exciting to be part of seeing the vision of this new Campus come to fruition in 2016 with our very first Pre-Kindergarten class and to see and be part of its growth over the past few years. I look forward to continuing to work with the students, teachers and families to further grow this Campus over the coming years.

Oakhurst Year 6 Fun Day

Oakhurst Year 6 Fun Day was an incredible success, with Primary enjoying an hour of fun activities and yummy treats. Students thoroughly enjoyed eating emoji cupcakes, lemonade spiders, ice-cream sundaes and self-decorated biscuits.

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

When we were travelling in Western NSW in July, it was confronting to visit places like Coonamble and see the Castlereagh River bone dry. The sandy river bed can be seen clearly on satellite imagery, and residents along the river are searching for pools of water up to 7 metres below the surface. They say that even when it does rain, it will be many months before there is water in the river. Other towns are surviving on bore water, or having it trucked in from the city – where even our dam levels are down to 50%. When I was younger, the first drought I remember resulted in Primary students being given stickers to place above all the taps in the house. “Water, don’t waste a precious drop” – regardless of how our society has moved ahead with technology, the very basic elements of life don’t come at the push of a button.

Bible Masterclass

42 students and two staff members attended the Bible Society’s 'Bible Masterclass' in a one-day event for students in Years 9-11. Throughout the day, students heard engaging talks from three leading speakers: John Dickson, Michael Hands and Melissa Lipsett.

From the Director of Welfare

Last Assembly I celebrated with Secondary Section the number of Awards issued during Term 2. There were over 3,500 Tokens issued, as well as 500 Special Awards, Merit Awards and Service Credits. I encouraged students to continue to make positive contributions to the RJ Community. I also acknowledged the staff in their efforts in recognising student's making these positive contributions.

National Science Week

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology and thousands of individuals – from students to scientists to chefs and musicians – get involved, taking part in more than 1000 science events across the nation.

NOVA Employment Step Program 2019

Eight RJ students ranging from Year 9 to 12 were invited to take part in the NOVA Employment Step Program for 2019. The eight-week program happened every Tuesday during Period 6. Eddie, from NOVA Employment South Windsor, took the students through various aspects of the workforce. They covered topics such as:

TODD WOODBRIDGE CUP

16 students from Years 3 and 4 travelled to Blacktown Tennis Centre at Stanhope Gardens to complete in the Todd Woodbridge Cup Zone Gala Day. Team 2 played well in their pool, winning half of their matches. Team 1 won each of their pool matches and played Quakers Hill Public School in the semi-finals. With a convincing win in the semis, Team 1 went on to play against Kings Langley Public School in the finals. It was a very tight match and the students played beautifully to win the final 5 sets to 3. They are now looking forward to playing the Regional Finals in September. Thank you to Miss Ross for all of her hard work training the squad.
