From the Principal

From the Principal

The end of Term 3 climaxed with several wonderful events. Our very successful and extremely enjoyable Fete and Open Day really brought our School community together and showcased the students’ talents and displays for many visitors. The contributions from so many parents and staff were greatly appreciated. Heading-up the large number of RJ parents were the outstanding Fete Organisers: Fete Co-ordinator - Jaclyn Golding, Stalls Co-ordinator – Samantha De Gouveia, P&F President - Catherine Lucas. Also, there were parents who volunteered considerable time before and during the Fete to fulfil various tasks. Thank you everyone – the RJ spirit of generosity was very evident!

From the Deputy Principal

From the Deputy Principal

Welcome to Term 4. This has to be one of my most favourite times of the year as we head up to the Christmas season. It is a time for our current Year 12 students to celebrate the end of their schooling when they complete an array of HSC Exams and then participate in their Senior Formal. We also get to recognise the efforts, contributions and hard work of our students at RJ through the Presentation Night events across our two Campuses. Our Year 6 students get to celebrate their transition from Primary to Secondary, marking a milestone in their schooling journey. So, let’s make the most of this term by enjoying each and every moment as we see the year out.

Primary Matters

From the Head of Primary

We have had a very settled start to Term 4. Parents should refer to the Term 4 Parent Information letter for their relevant Campus for information about Term 4 events. The Parent Information letter is available on the School website.

IPSHA Gala Debating Day

On Thursday 17 October, the Primary debating teams participated in the IPSHA Gala Debating Day at Macarthur Anglican School. Our Year 5 team comprised Jody Villanueva, Aluat Doong, Yashita Dutt and Avani Nadan and Year 6 team was made up of Addison Keown, Ronan Peter, Siana Wells and Tiana Sladen. The teams spoke clearly, confidently and provided excellent rebuttals.

NSW Judo Junior Schools Cup

Well done Ayden and Marques Prasad for representing RJ in the NSW Judo Junior Schools Cup. Ayden placed 3rd and Marques placed 2nd.

Secondary Segments

From the Director of Studies

Last week saw the start of the HSC examinations for our Year 12 students completing their English examinations. In the last few days I have seen a few articles in the National newspapers concerning the English papers this year but after speaking to our staff and students they feel that they were very well prepared for their exam. This week our Year 12 students will sit examinations in a range of subjects, and I am sure that you will keep them in your prayers during this time.

National Art School

Mr Cockrem, Mrs Miggins and Mr Bemrose would like to congratulate Year 11 students Shaalee Manlapid, Gabriel Munoz and Suraksha Singh on the successful completion of their course at the National Art School Sydney.

North West Mission

A tired but exhilarated team of students and teachers returned following the North West Mission, involving travel to Moree, Wee Waa and Narrabri. The nine days were a time of great blessing for the team as they shared the wonderful news of the Gospel with children and young people in these rural and remote communities. The trip commenced with a very early 5.00am departure from the School for a ten hour bus drive to Moree, via Singleton, Quirindi, Gunnedah and Narrabri. We were very thankful for travelling mercies covering over 1400 kilometres.

Operation Christmas Child

One of the special programs that we are involved in each year is Samaritan’s Purse 'Operation Christmas Child', where students bring in goods to fill shoe boxes which are then distributed to some of the poorest children in countries overseas. Last year we sent over 130 shoeboxes overseas and would love to increase that number this year.

Year 9 English Science Fiction Talk

This Term, Year 9 English are studying a unit of work on Science Fiction. To compliment the study of this unit, on 16 October Year 9 students had the opportunity to listen to an introductory talk on characteristics of the Science Fiction genre from our resident Science Fiction Enthusiast, Mr Hughes.

Careers Report

From the Careers Advisor

Welcome back to Term 4 and we begin our Careers Report by reflecting on all the amazing opportunities we had on offer in Term 3.

On Monday 23 September, we welcomed our final university for the year. We were honoured to have student ambassadors from the University of Technology come and speak to our keen Year 11 and 12 students.

Sports Reports

Primary Sport Report

SOCCER CLINIC

We are pleased to see that all 40 positions for our soccer clinic, commencing on Friday of Week 3, have been quickly filled. We look forward to having Ben Gough, Technical Director for Mount Druitt Town Rangers, run this program with other coaches. It is important that students wear a hat and have sunscreen on. Students are to change after school and meet Mr Mitchell on the sport fields for registration. If the temperatures get too hot, we will endeavour to move the sessions into the air conditioned Hall. Just a reminder that the sessions will commence at 3:40pm and finish at 4:40pm. Please ensure that you are punctual in picking up your child.

We hope to build on this new partnership moving into 2020.

Secondary Sport Report

I have just had the privilege to attend the 2019 NW Mission Trip that went to Moree, Wee Waa and Narrabri. It was an amazing time to see God working in various rural communities. But now it is back to work on Sport for Term 4.

School Travel - Term 4 2019

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday 11 October 2019. New students or those catching public transport for the first time should apply online https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Students progressing to Year 3 and Year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

  • Are continuing at the same school
  • Are residing at the same address
  • Have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.
