Please note Mrs Clay's reference, in the Head of Secondary article in this edition, to her life-saving cancer surgery and treatment. We are thankful that she is now back in her role full-time. Her journey through many tough challenges is very inspiring indeed and her testimony points others to the power of God to sustain and heal. We praise God for her recovery! We also extend our profound gratitude to Mrs Scrimshaw for undertaking extra responsibilities during Semester 1, especially in assisting the School Executive to successfully navigate the RJ Community through the various needful adjustments during the uncertain COVID-19 circumstances. We are extremely grateful for her outstanding commitment and generosity of significant additional time. We praise God for the provision of Mrs Scrimshaw, to 'step into the breach' so flexibly and capably!

From the Deputy Principal

From the Deputy Principal

When I first became a father, my parents told me that my job as a parent is a lifetime role, and it is one I very much still enjoy. Some people however, would say that as parents our role never seems to end, which tends to imply a negative connotation to the role. The fact is, as parents we have responsibilities in caring for and leading our children through life’s challenges and when it comes to our children’s use of electronic devices or online activity, whether for school or leisure at home, we need to step up into this parent role.

Primary Matters

From the Head of Primary - Oakhurst

Welcome back to Term 3 Oakhurst Primary families, I hope the break included some relaxation and down-time. We ended Term 2 on an optimistic note Coronavirus-wise, however the unfolding events in Victoria with the associated spread into NSW have meant that as a School, we need to keep our restrictions and protocols in place a little longer. As a community we continue to pray for a vaccine to be found.

From the Head of Primary - Marsden Park

Students have had a settled start to the new term and are busily engaged in their learning. The Term 3 Primary Parent Information was emailed to parents prior to the commencement of Term 3 and is available on the RJ website. However, changes to some events will occur due to COVID-19 restrictions. Please note amendments to dates listed below.

CRU Blast 2020

What a great time we had at CRU Blast in the last week of the school holidays!!! We were so thankful that we were able to run the Camp this year, despite the organisational issues faced due to COVID-19.60 Primary aged students from both Campuses enjoyed a terrific CRU Blast Day Camp facilitated by CRU (a Christian Schools Ministry Organisation) along with St Mark’s Oakhurst and our School. Crusaders took overall responsibility for the Camp, providing leadership, the fantastic program, advertising, bookings and the Christian Discovery activities. It was wonderful to be able to use the St Mark’s Church facilities during the week and to have Rev Jason Ramsay as part of the team.

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

It has been a great blessing to be back at School this past week and enjoy the luxury of feeling well! I am very thankful for Mrs Scrimshaw stepping into my role and leading the Secondary Section over these last two terms, and for the support she has been given by staff and parents.

From the Director of Welfare

Welcome back to Term 3, it has been great to have all the students back on Campus again after a three week break. I do hope that the break, while most likely different from this time last year, was a refreshing one for everyone.

Year 9 Documentary Pitch

Year 9 English students have been studying a unit on documentaries. As part of their study, their assessment task required them to create a pitch for a program suitable for a documentary channel. Students had to persuade the audience as to why their documentary idea should be selected.

Youth Off the Streets Winter Sleepout

What a great night we had at the Youth Off The Streets – Winter Sleepout!!!! Late last Term on Friday 26 June, over 160 intrepid students from Years 6 -12 and 7 teachers braved the cold weather (4o C) and sleeping on the concrete Primary Courtyard to participate in the Youth off the Streets Winter Sleepout. In doing so, the students experienced, to a small degree, the harsh reality of homelessness. In Australia, there are over 100,000 people living homeless, with over 47,000 being young people between 12 and 25 years and 25,000 of these are between 12 and 17 years old.

BASKETBALL TRIALS/TRAINING

With the possibility of a Gala Day run by the Hills Hornets at the end of this term, trials and squad training for this event will commence in Week 4. If you are a Stage 3 boy or girl (from either Campus) and basketball is something that you love to play, trials will be held at the Oakhurst Campus on Tuesday afternoon. Depending on numbers, the triallists will be notified if they have made the squad to continue further training later on in the term. Parent pickup will be from the Dryden Avenue gates at 4:40pm. Please be punctual in picking up your child.
