From the Principal
RJ has always strived to be that place where students and their families can belong, serve and succeed. Connection and belonging to a school community are essential aspects of a student's educational journey and can also become an important part of a family’s life for a time.
Schools serve as microcosms of society, providing a platform for students to develop social skills, forge friendships, and establish a sense of identity. Research shows that this sense of connection and belonging within a school community fosters a supportive and nurturing environment that greatly enhances students' overall well-being and academic success.
We want all of our students at RJ to feel connected to our school community where they have opportunities to be actively engaged in their education and all that the school has to offer. Developing a sense of pride and ownership in their school is a good starting point as this can translate into increased motivation and enthusiasm for learning. The feeling of belonging creates a sense of security and comfort, allowing students to take risks, explore new ideas, and collaborate with their peers.
Similar to students reminiscing over past school photos when they have long left their school, reflecting on the activities they took part in at school also form wonderful moments remembered for a lifetime.
As such, next week our Primary and Secondary students have another moment in time to forge a stronger sense of connection and belonging as they participate in the Annual House Athletics carnivals. In the sporting arena, students challenge themselves to give their best and develop their sense of house spirit. It’s a wonderful time for our students to connect outside the classroom and navigate interpersonal relationships in a different context. Our Athletics Carnivals are not optional events. Please ensure your child is ready to attend and participate, even in a small way.
Also, on Friday June 16, students can participate in the Winter Sleepout held at the Oakhurst Campus. This event helps our students to grow in their awareness of those less fortunate than themselves. It also provides opportunities for our students to develop empathy, understanding, and respect for diverse perspectives. If you would like your secondary student to be involved, please ensure they see Mr Rowe to collect a permission form so they can attend. Students in Year 6 are also eligible to take part in this overnight event.
As we continue to grow learners, connect hearts and build community at RJ, we also want to stay connected to our students who have graduated from their formal schooling. If you are a past student or are in contact with one or two, we would love for them to take part in our Alumni Register. By clicking on this link, our past students can reconnect with us and we would love to know about what they have been up to as they’ve shaped their adult lives. Please pass on our call out to reconnect with our past students.
God Bless
