Last night I attended the Talkfest Public Speaking competition here at RJ and heard students from Stage 4 and 5 deliver some amazing oratories on the subject of Ambition. The benefits and pitfalls of ambition were explored as was the need to balance the drive and sense of ambition in our lives. It was remarkable to hear some gems of wisdom from our Students as they tackled some of the keys to living a life of ambition.

In the last week we have had significant events at opposite ends of the School. Year 12 have now completed their Trial HSC examinations, Year 11 have had the launch of the Student Leadership Program and our Primary students had the joy of Book Week celebrations. All three events are significant rites of passage in student life.

BOOKWEEK BONANZA 📕📖

This Term continues to move along – Week 6 already! There was a great buzz around Oakhurst Primary leading up to our Book Week Celebration Day last Friday. Many parents joined us for the parades and we were treated to an amazing variety of costumes plus a special performance from Mr McGregor, Peter Rabbit and the teachers who brought the garden to life! Mrs Peterson, our treasured Librarian, worked tirelessly up at the Book Fair, so a special thank you if you were able to purchase a book or stationery in F6 classroom last week - a wonderful incentive to keep reading with your children.

Our Year 12 students have completed their HSC Trial Examinations, HSC Drama performances have been marked, Visual Arts Major works submitted and the HSC Music students have the opportunity to have their Major Work marked next week. The final Term of lessons for our Year 12 students is certainly coming to a close quickly. Please uphold them in your thoughts and prayers as they conclude their formal time with us and prepare for the HSC examinations that start early in Term 4.

Year 11 Food Technology

The Year 11 Food Technology class has embraced this new subject well. They have enjoyed the practical lessons and have displayed improvement in their culinary skills throughout the year.

PRIMARY BOOK WEEK – WEEK 5

What an amazing day was had by all students that attended the Annual Book Week Parade held on Friday 25 August. The day represents an important cultural landmark in our School to bond us and bind us all together. The importance of reading for children cannot be understated. It is simply the most critical factor in a student’s performance across their school career. We wanted to bring joy to the event, which is why it was so important that I dress up as Horton Hears a Who. What always surprises me is the level of creativity displayed on behalf of students. There were so many memorable costumes! A few 2023 standouts were The Adam’s Family – in particular the amazing array of Wednesdays. There were dinosaurs, Grugs, Star Wars characters and many more.
