From the Principal

From the Principal

This is the final issue of RJ Review for 2019. It’s hard to believe that we’ve started some end of year celebrations. The next few weeks will be crowded with wonderful activities. Let’s finish the year strongly, with much enthusiasm.

In the previous fortnight we greatly enjoyed some splendid occasions. There were so many students, who are coached weekly by our peripatetic tutors, ready to display their musical progress, that three Concerts were held simultaneously. Everyone had an encouraging time. The students’ progress and the tutors’ contributions were appropriately acknowledged.

Principal's Awards

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Principal's Awards at recent Assemblies:

From the Deputy Principal

From the Deputy Principal

As we come to the end of the year in a couple of weeks’ time, I would like to wish all our families a safe and happy holiday season. May your home be filled with the ever-present love of God and joy of Christmas as we remember God’s gift of his Son to humanity this festive season.

We look forward to seeing your children return at the start of the new year with 2020 vision and focus for another great year, but until then….don’t forget our Primary and Secondary Presentation Nights and our Secondary Swim Day (December 4) to finish out the year.

Primary Matters

From the Head of Primary

We are looking forward to an action-packed last few weeks as the 2019 school year draws to a close. Please see details for significant events outlined below.

ASSEMBLY

Students in 1M, 5R, KM, KP and 2R presented wonderful Assembly Items over the past 2 weeks as we have learnt more about how God saves His people. This week, some special guests will be presenting the final Assembly for the year. I’m sure our students will enjoy their amazing presentation.

Book Fairs Report

During our Education Mornings earlier this term, we held book fairs at both Campuses. Thank you to the generosity of all our customers we were able to raise a combined commission of almost $2,000, which will be spent on books and other resources for both libraries. A special thank you is extended to those who donated books:

Toys 'n' Tucker

Each year Anglicare runs a ‘Toys ‘n’ Tucker’ Appeal to provide toys and food for families in need at Christmas.

The Student Forum is leading our School’s support for the Appeal this year and we would love to have donations of any of the items listed below. Please don’t send in anything perishable or any chocolates. Also, please don’t wrap presents as they must be unwrapped prior to distribution.

This is a wonderful way to help those in need - we can make a difference!

Year 2 Cartooning Incursion

On Friday 15 November, Year 2 participated in a Cartooning incursion with Toonworld. We had so much fun learning how to create cartoon characters. Our instructors encouraged us to be creative and to turn our mistakes into something great.

Secondary Segments

From the Head of Secondary

It was wonderful last Friday evening to have some relief from the smoke and see our Year 12 students ready to step out into the future and make an impact on the world at large. They have many plans – further study featured heavily, the possibility of gap years and new places were all “fuelling” their excitement for what might lie ahead. We were able to present, acknowledge and applaud their endeavours, and most importantly, pray for them. We can make plans, but God directs our path, and we pray that they would have a purpose-driven life, founded in Christ.

Backpack Challenge Certificate

From the Secondary Library

It’s that time of year when all textbooks and other library items need to be returned. Please check at home, your lockers and classrooms to make sure you have them all. Any outstanding items you still have may be charged to your school fees account to enable their replacement.

The schedule for returning textbooks is as follows:

#RJ_Reads

The English Department, ably assisted by the Culture Captains and Co-Captains have launched ‘RJ Reads’ to encourage students to read over the summer. In Assemblies, Ceann, T.J, Dillon and Maya have been using the slogan “Don’t get Dumber over the Summer” in their hilarious skits to teach about “summer reading loss”.

Sports Reports

Primary Sports Report

It has been another busy year with Primary sport at RJ. First and foremost, I would like to thank all the parents and other helpers who were able to volunteer their time to assist our various Primary teams on their sporting adventures this year. It has been fantastic to receive support in coaching and refereeing, as well as being a fantastic cheer squad for our young athletes.

We look forward to 2020 and an increase in sporting opportunities for Primary students at RJ. We hope that some of these programs are well received and will strengthen each year.

Secondary Sports Report

I can’t believe the end of 2019 is just around the corner. We are looking forward to 2020 and what the year will bring. There are many events that come up early in Term 1, so you will need to watch this space closely.
