From the Principal

The next 8 years takes us from 2005 through to 2012. In 2005, RJ consisted of 500 students and 50 staff. Assemblies were still being conducted with Primary and Secondary together. The House system had out-grown the 3 Houses and added a 4th – David’s Rams – which injected new energy, catapulting the Houses into overdrive, with tremendous enthusiasm spilling over into all aspects of School life. The vitality of RJ’s extraordinary House spirit became thoroughly ingrained from this point and has never waned since. Following the success of Concert and Beginner Bands, the RJ Jazz Ensemble was created and the birth of ‘RJ Allstars’ further increased splendid opportunities in the Performing Arts. During 2005 Block H was completed. In 2006, RJ ventured into Stage 6, a momentous period of pioneering Years 11-12 had begun and the first students sitting for the HSC were being prepared, to the extent that Physics was provided for just one student – an unaffordable but necessary example of our wholehearted step of faith. We initiated an efficient co-operative project with Rouse Hill Anglican College, to enable the widest possible selection of subjects, by sharing the teaching of classes between the schools and by transporting students between the two sites on 4 days. In 2006, the inaugural Mission Team travelled with another group from Arndell Anglican College to the Northern Territory and, two years later, RJ commenced its unique North West (NSW) Mission Trip, a more affordable concept to make it possible for a larger group of students to link with indigenous ministries in Moree, Wee Waa and Narrabri.

“81% of parents with pre-schoolers say their children use the internet.” (eSafety Commissioner)

When I read the above statistic, I became quite concerned as to the wide-spread use of electronic devices by young children. It becomes even more apparent that many students are frequently using social media platforms, the internet and mobile communications when we come across situations at School that arise due to students not handling social media and their devices well. The importance of parental control and supervision of students’ use of mobile phones and other devices is becoming paramount to everyday family life.

ASSEMBLY

Our Assembly series on the ‘I Am Statements of Jesus’ concluded in Week 2 with a delightful offering from KR based on Jesus as the Light of the World. All Primary classes have been able to present an Assembly Item this year and these have showcased the wonderful work within the classrooms while bringing us a thoughtful Bible message. Thank you to the class teachers who worked so hard on assisting the students with their presentations. In Week 5 we will hold our Farewell to Year 12 Assembly as well as present the Year 5 students with their Young Leaders Program certificates.

ASSEMBLY

Students in KP performed a wonderful Assembly Item in Week 2, teaching how Jesus is the Good Shepherd and cares for us, His sheep, each and every day. Our very fun Book Week celebrations replaced Assembly in Week 3. House Meetings replace Assembly in Week 4. We look forward to 2M presenting in Week 5 and 5/6M in Week 6. Parents are not able to attend Assemblies in Term 4; however, Class Items will be uploaded to See Saw for parents to view.

Year 4 Pyjamarama

On Friday 23 October Year 4 and their teachers arrived excitedly back at School in their PJs for their long awaited Pyjamarama. Our amazing Secondary leaders helped us with some fun and interactive games for us to play in the Hall while we waited for our sausages to sizzle.

Mrs Jenny Clay, Deputy Principal

From the Head of Secondary

We are well over half way through the HSC examinations and thankfully have had all students present and in good health. School life for Year 12 students in the year of COVID-19 will come to its final fruition on Thursday 12 November with the Primary Farewell and Staff vs Student game, whilst the finale will be on Friday 13 November. The following is the link that can be shared for the live broadcast of the Year 12 Graduation that day:

WORD OF CAUTION

Students are not to permitted to take photos or film on School grounds - not in the playground, classrooms, bathrooms or locker rooms.

Additionally, any video or photos of students in RJ Uniform are not to be shared or posted on social media. Parents are encouraged to talk with their children regarding their use of phones and social media, even looking through the camera roll/gallery to ensure that your child is not going to get themselves in to trouble in this area. I would also encourage parents to follow their children’s social media accounts, again to support them in using social media in an appropriate and helpful way.

Year 7 2021 Orientation

Due to recent health guidelines received from the Department of Education we find the need to alter our plans for our Year 7 Orientation Program. This has resulted in the number of Orientation Days being reduced to one and the Parent Information Session being held online.

ORIENTATION DAY – THURSDAY 19 NOVEMBER ONLY [NOT WEDNESDAY 4 NOVEMBER]

The Orientation Day begins for all Year 6 students with their arrival at the School by 8.15am for registration (including current RJ Year 6 students).

Mr Stewart Rowe, Director of Christian Ministry/Service Learning (7-12)

Operation Christmas Child

One of the special programs that we are involved in each year is Samaritan’s Purse 'Operation Christmas Child', where students bring in goods to fill shoe boxes which are then distributed to some of the poorest children in countries overseas. Last year we sent over 90 shoe boxes overseas and would love to increase that number this year.

From the Hub

It’s that time of year when all textbooks and other library items need to be returned. Please check at home, your lockers and classrooms to make sure you have them all. Any outstanding items you have may be charged to your School Fees account to enable their replacement.

Mr Stewart Rowe, Director of Christian Ministry/Service Learning (7-12)

Year 10 Service Week

Each year, students in Year 10 participate in Service Week, where they volunteer and serve others in varying locations and activities. This year, Service Week will run from Monday 23 till Thursday 26 November. At RJ, we are very keen to encourage students to get involved in activities that meet the needs of other people, to go beyond what they would normally do, doing something for someone else with no thought of reward for themselves. We know that Jesus served us and God has blessed us with so much. This is an opportunity to be a blessing to others.

Mr Stewart Rowe, Director of Christian Ministry/Service Learning (7-12)

Bikes Wanted for the Year 10 Service Week

One of the activities that has been suggested is a pushbike project where old, serviceable push bikes are cleaned up and minor repairs made. The bikes will then be donated to an organisation that distributes the bikes to children and adults who cannot afford to buy a bike. The bikes are distributed both inside Australia and overseas.

Student Leaders at Years 5&6 Camp and Year 4 Pyjamarama

One of the highlights of the Service Learning program is the opportunity for Secondary students to become student leaders on Primary Camps. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only Year 10 student leaders (Rebecca A, Samantha C, Harmony M, Ethan B, Justin B, Carlos L and Joshua J) were able to attend the Years 5 and 6 Camp. Year 10 students thoroughly enjoyed their time on the Camp and were a great help to the teachers.
