From the Acting Principal

From the Acting Principal

I would like to start this Edition by thanking our parents for their support and patience as our staff prepared a range of Parent Information Videos for our beginning of year parent sessions which are normally delivered in person. Our Primary video and the Stage 4 to Stage 6 videos were released over the last couple of weeks to provide parents with the necessary information to enable their children to have a smooth start to the year. If you missed out on these, please contact your child’s Head of Primary or Secondary for the relevant links to the videos.

Principal's Awards

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Principal's Awards at recent Assemblies:

It has been a very busy few weeks with camps and I know as we head towards the Musical that there will be more pressure on Secondary students and staff as production efforts rise to another level. As with large scale productions, any successful community will experience differences of opinion at times, but working together to resolve these is of utmost importance. After all, working closely together, helps bring the best out of us all.

ASSEMBLY

Thank you to 4J who gave us a well-planned presentation last Friday on how God communicates with us and how we can communicate with Him. We are certainly getting to know aspects of our God better this term. It was also lovely to have our Kindergarten students join us for the first time in our Friday Assemblies this year.

Mrs Narelle Taylor, Head of Diverse Learning (P-12)

ASSEMBLY

In Week 4, students in 3/4P taught us that God is omnipresent and loving, caring, faithful, unchanging and forgiving. IM, in Week 5, showed us how God reveals himself to us through His creation. Both classes presented wonderful Assembly Items. Grandparents Day filming replaces Primary Assembly this week. 1/2P will present an Assembly Item in Week 7, followed by House Meetings in Week 8.

Secondary Segments

Mrs Julia Scrimshaw, Head of Academics, Learning and Innovation (P-12)

From the Acting Head of Secondary

At this time of year, as we leave the heat of the Summer and move towards the cooler nights of Autumn, my mind races forward to the things we have planned for the rest of the year. We are now halfway through Term 1, and our younger Secondary students are now well settled in to their new classes and are beginning to receive their first assessment tasks. The prospect of these early assessments is often daunting, and many will fall into the trap of leaving their assignments till the last minute. The key to doing well is preparation. Assessment calendars and booklets have now been published. Please take the opportunity to print off the calendar, and particularly with our new students, plan with them how and when they will complete the work they need to do.

CAMP NOTES

Camps for Years 8, 9 and 10 are coming up in Week 1 of Term 2. Parents and students are reminded that notes have gone home and they need to be returned this week. Camps are compulsory and are essential in building community within each cohort.

Year 11 Study Camp

Year 11 enjoyed their Study Camp at Stanwell Tops Conference Centre. “Don’t tell me we have to study for two days,” one Year 11 student said to me. They did not study all the time, but study skills were an important part of the Camp, focusing on essential skills to start off well with their senior studies.

AFL GALA DAY

The team for the AFL Gala Day has been selected. We are expecting to play in the next fortnight but are awaiting details from the AFL as to the venue. The rain over the last month pushed trials back which in turn has delayed efforts to commence training.

Secondary Sports Report

We are now halfway through Term 1 and we have been blessed that all sporting opportunities have been going ahead as planned. Even with COVID-19 restrictions, students have been able to compete in a variety of sporting events.

Announcements

Footprints 2020 – would like you another copy?

The School has a limited number of Footprints remaining that can be given to families desiring an extra copy.

If you would like a copy, please collect one from Main Reception (Oakhurst) or email admin@rjas.nsw.edu.au and we will send a copy home with your eldest child. (Limit one extra per family.)

Do you have a child you need to enrol for 2022?

If you have a child that you were intending to commence at RJ in 2022, and haven’t completed the Application for Enrolment already, please do so ASAP as spaces are filling up fast.

Whilst the School does give enrolment priority to siblings of current RJ students, this priority lapses after 30 March so please don’t delay.

Register online: https://enrol.rjas.nsw.edu.au/student/enrolment

Do you use Dryden Avenue to collect your child?

Please be careful when driving along Dryden Avenue. Unfortunately, a neighbour has had their car scraped by another vehicle on two separate occasions this Term (once at the front, and once at the back). The incidents were not observed but it would seem that the damage occurred during the afternoon collection period.

Easter at Oakhurst Anglican Church

Tickets Available from Friday 5 March!

Got Feedback?

The School endeavours to continually improve the RJ experience and welcomes encouraging and/or constructive feedback from parents on events, activities, or RJ life in general. Please email parentfeedback@rjas.nsw.edu.au and your input will be considered accordingly. Thank you for your time.
