From the Acting Principal

With the start of a new term comes the flurry of activity across the School. Last week we had three cohorts of students out on their annual Camps – Year 8 went to Canberra to experience our Parliamentary system, Year 9 embarked on an outdoor educational adventure at the Colo River property at Somerset, and Year 10 took part in the Urban Challenge in the centre of the City of Sydney. From all reports, the students had a really great time with many experiencing their destinations for the very first time. I would like to thank all teachers who gave of their time to attend and supervise on these three day long excursions.

Principal's Awards

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Principal's Awards at recent Assemblies:

Welcome back! We finished Term 1 on a very high note (literally, if you were an audience member at the Musical), with many special Easter activities and we started Term 2 in a rush – Years 8, 9 and 10 had very successful Camp experiences last week.

GREAT START TO TERM 2

RJ Primary Oakhurst students have had a settled start to Term 2. Already we have enjoyed our first set of House meetings and the ANZAC Day Assembly. We welcome new students and their families who have joined our Community this term.

ASSEMBLY

Our Easter Outreach Assembly was a wonderful service to end Term 1 as we looked at Jesus as our Saviour, triumphant over sin through His death and resurrection. Our Kids for Christ (KFC) groups shared about their learning throughout the term and sang a song, the Secondary Chapel Captains joined us to explain why Jesus is important to them and Rev Collins from Life Anglican Church explained how Jesus defeated sin and repaired our broken relationship with God.

Secondary Segments

IS YOUR TEEN GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP?

Though we are only in Week 2 of Term 2, it seems incredible to me the number of our students looking tired and sleepy. Whether it be the change in the clocks, the weather, or just readjusting to being back in school, being tired and lacking energy is never conducive to good educational learning outcomes.

Year 8 Camp

Year 8 were able to spend time experiencing the sites of our nation’s capital during their Canberra Trip. After a very early departure students set off on the trip with great excitement.

Year 9 Camp

Last week, Year 9 students attended camp at Somerset Outdoor Education Centre. This three day experience provided a unique opportunity for students to camp and be challenged by several outdoor activities such as Canoeing, Hiking, Abseiling, Obstacle course and Wombat Hole challenge.

Run4Bibles

Students in Secondary ran a successful sausage sizzle at the Years 3-12 Cross Country in support of the Run4Bibles project. It was encouraging to see students being actively involved in raising money to send Bibles to students in South Africa. Thank you to everyone who supported this project.

Announcements

Mothers Day Stall

The School is pleased to offer a Mothers Day Stall for Primary and Pre-K students in 2021 as a fundraising activity. If you would like your child to purchase a gift, please send $5 or $10 (single note preferably) on Thursday 6 May (Oakhurst) or Friday 7 May (Marsden Park). Non Friday Pre-K students can purchase a gift on Tuesday or Thursday. Students are limited to one gift, although an exception is made if a child has two mothers (e.g. a stepmother). Please avoid sending coins to avoid them being lost on the day and to assist with end of day cash handling and counting.

A big thank you to the wonderful parents who have volunteered to assist with the stalls.

School Fees Now Overdue

Please finalise the Term 2 school fees to avoid a late fee. Alternatively please organise a direct debit accordingly if you haven’t already. Thank you for your prompt attention to this Condition of Enrolment.

Christianity Explained Course

Oakhurst Anglican Church would like to extend an invitation to any RJAS parent to inform themselves about Christianity and the Bible. As RJ parents, you will know how seriously RJ takes the Christian gospel, and Oakhurst Anglican Church would like to give parents the chance to find out for themselves what their children are hearing about at school each day.

Got Feedback?

The School endeavours to continually improve the RJ experience and welcomes encouraging and/or constructive feedback from parents on events, activities, or RJ life in general. Please email parentfeedback@rjas.nsw.edu.au and your input will be considered accordingly. Thank you for your time.
