From the Principal

School life is so full of some amazing highs and yet some sad lows. We get to experience the joy of students and families joining our community and seeing students achieve significant milestones in their personal journeys, all the while juxtaposed families who experience grief and loss in the blink of an eye. As a School, we count it a privilege to walk alongside families no matter the reality of their journeys knowing that God our creator is with us all along the way.

ASSEMBLIES TERM 2

We continue to enjoy class presentations on our Psalms theme this term. 6J and 5R brought us great truths based on Psalms 8 and 78. This coming Friday we will be holding House Meetings so there will be no Assembly that day. Our Assembly in Week 7 will be a Performance Assembly from some of our Performing Arts groups.

ASSEMBLY

KP and KM have presented their first Assembly Items over the past fortnight. They did a wonderful job of presenting one of the Psalms to us. KM presented Psalm 139. This is an incredible Psalm which shows us how intimately God knows each and every one of His children. I encourage you to read it. House Meetings replace Primary Assembly this week, with no Assembly in Week 7 due to the Primary Athletics Carnival.

TIKTOK

Do you know what your child is doing on Social Media? In a world where our students have so much access to the internet through phones, laptops etc., it is so important that we know what they are accessing and why.

In the last few years, many teens and “tweens” have moved away from more traditional platforms such as Facebook or Instagram and have begun to have more of a profile on platforms such as TikTok. Many parents are unaware of the controls that are now available to them for such platforms.

STUDENTS FILMING AND PHOTOGRAPHING AT RJ

The School has very clear expectations regarding students filming and photographing each other while in school uniform, whether on school grounds or elsewhere. Frustratingly an increasing number of circumstances have been brought to my attention, from students as well as members of the public, that has demonstrated that some students have been using their phones and laptops to film and photograph each other. When the use of social media is added to these situations students are putting the privacy of their friends at risk and damaging the school’s reputation. This type of behaviour from students within the RJ community needs to stop.

National Art School Intensive HSC Program

In the April school holidays, two year 12 Visual Arts students, Maya G and Katerina A, were accepted into the National Art School (NAS) Intensive HSC Program. NAS is one of Sydney’s most prestigious art colleges and has been the place of study for many established Australian artists. The Intensive HSC Program invited selected students to participate in four full days of artmaking, helping to grow and develop their skills that they would need in their HSC and beyond.

Secondary Sports Report

We have officially made it halfway through Term 2. We have had quite a few major events with a few more to come shortly. We continue our Secondary Sports Program on Tuesday afternoons, which includes our representative sports. As we move closer to the end of term, there are already plans for Semester 2 in all areas of sport. I hope we continue to have the great participation from our RJ community in a range of opportunities.
