From the Principal

From the Principal

“Would you please join me in welcoming Mr Dawson to come and present some Principal’s Awards”. This is the line that heralds one of the most exciting parts of my week – presenting students with awards at either a Primary or Secondary Assembly. It is an absolute privilege to honour students for their academic, sporting and cultural efforts within our School community and I never get tired of expressing my gratitude to our students for their investment in their educational journey. Most of these students have simply just given it a go, and as a result, discovered their ability to succeed in an area of School life.

Principal's Awards

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Principal's Awards at recent Assemblies:

From the Deputy Principal

Mrs Jenny Clay, Deputy Principal

From the Acting Deputy Principal

As we head towards the end of Term, we often find that students become more argumentative with one another, especially in the playground. This restlessness can be fairly typical of students who are tired from a term of constant work and assignments (and not necessarily good sleep patterns), trying to maintain self-control in the classroom, but come the open air at recess and lunch find they are wanting to let off energy and become more aggressive in the way they play and talk. Consequently teachers have been conducting a lot more investigations into incidents that have been reported.

A special thank you to Mr Reed plus tech team and of course the dedicated Staff who train these groups each week – Miss S-D, Miss Parata, Mrs Fiore, Mrs Frakes and Mrs Statheos. RJ Creative Arts are blossoming!

MINIMUM STANDARDS TESTING

This week sees the last catch up session for Minimum Standards Testing this term. Any student who has not currently reached the required level will have another opportunity to retry the testing next term. Though the results for Reading and Numeracy are available within hours, the Writing test results can often take up to a month.

Mr Brad Maxwell - Head of Senior School

From the Director of Welfare

Late last week all students in Years 7-10 attended "The Hurting Game" presented by Brainstorm Productions. Firstly the students are commended for their behaviour throughout the production; they were a respectful and engaged audience. "The Hurting Game" addressed very real and relevant issues that our students may face such as family or friendship issues, mental health issues and inappropriate use of social media.

Youth Off the Streets Winter Sleepout

For the past five years, students have participated in the Youth Off the Streets Winter Sleepout. The Sleepout is on again this year and it will be held from Friday evening June 18 to Saturday morning June 19. If you are in Years 6-12 collect a permission form from Student Reception or D Block Staffroom and return it with the receipt from Try Booking. The Try Booking link is: https://www.trybooking.com/BRNZC

We are coming to the end of Term 2 with our School and Representative Sports. Finals start for our teams this week for our Representative Netball and Soccer teams. Good luck in your games. With only two weeks left after today, plans are already being made for the Term 3 sports program. This means that we need to have any nominations for next Term's Representative sport sorted by next Friday 18 June. The Representative sports on offer are Boys Rugby League (14’s and 16’s), Mixed Volleyball (15’s and Opens) and Girls Opens Softball. Any student wishing to nominate needs to use the Edumate Broadcast link to the online form to complete this process.

What to do if your child is absent

If your child is absent, please email absences@rjas.nsw.edu.au or SMS 0438 657 339 (do not call), providing a reason for the absence e.g. sick. It is preferred that families email or SMS and do not call School Reception due to the high volume of calls in the morning. Thank you for your understanding.

Would you like a tax deduction?

Thank you to the families who have already contributed to the School’s building and library tax deductible funds when paying their Term fees. As we move towards the end of another financial year, if you would like to benefit from an additional tax deduction whilst improving the capital resources at RJ, please consider selecting the relevant Bpay reference on your last Term invoice and make a contribution before 30 June (and email dpascoe@tasc.nsw.edu.au  confirming the amount you would like a tax receipt for). Tax receipts will be provided by the Corporation after 30 June. Thank you in advance for your generous consideration.
