From the Principal

Since our last edition of the RJ Review, we have managed to welcome the return of our RJ Community Connect Evenings, host our Year 7 Camp, upload our Grandparent Day celebration videos online and return to some normality at school with COVID restrictions being eased. It was wonderful to experience whole of Secondary Assemblies and I can’t wait to be amongst all of our Primary stages at their next Assembly.

Announcement from School Council Chair

On behalf of the School Council, it’s with great pleasure that I announce the Commissioning Service of RJ’s Principal, Mr Alan Dawson to be held at RJ on Friday 1 April. We are honoured to have The Most Rev. Kanishka Raffel, Archbishop of Sydney, presiding over this significant event as we join together to bless and ask for God’s guidance in support of Mr Dawson and his journey ahead as Principal at RJ.

At the Secondary Student Leadership Day we will be focussing on Courageous Leadership, and unpacking what that means for each student. As a precursor, we had the privilege of hearing well-renowned speaker, Glen Gerreyn, last Thursday afternoon. Glen focussed on developing one’s leadership traits. He encouraged students to be proactive and not let their talents go to waste - rather, make a difference and take action. He also invited them to share their thoughts with him via email – not just now, but into the future as well, making sure they noted when he came and spoke at the school so he could check his notes!

ASSEMBLY

Thank you to 4J who gave us a lovely presentation on Kindness and its part in the Fruit of the Spirit. We are certainly getting many practical examples and seeing the benefits of kindness in our lives this term. We are all looking forward to being able to be together in the Hall for our next Primary Assembly.

THE WAY

Last week saw the rain waters rise, leading to our School needing to evacuate. I was very impressed with how all the students were able to cope on Wednesday and it reminded me of how resilient children can be in the face of adversity. It is something that parents often wonder about. Is my child/ren resilient enough? How can I help to build greater resilience in my children?

DECISIONS, DECISIONS, DECISIONS

During the Secondary Assembly last Friday I raised with students the impact the decisions we make can have on the RJ Community. There the decisions that are encouraged, if not celebrated, such as doing your best in class, being on time, helping a friend, wearing the correct uniform, submitting work on time and following the direction of a teacher. These decisions enhance and build our community. Unfortunately we have seen students make decisions that have taken away from our community, these decisions are discouraged and often require follow up from staff. Decisions such as not being prepared for class, misusing the internet while at school, interfering with another students property and ‘silly’ interactions with friends in the playground.

RJ Performing Arts Co-Curricular 2022

2022 offers exciting Performing Arts opportunities for our RJ students across our Primary and Secondary Campuses. Many of our students started rehearsals last week and it was encouraging to see and hear students involved for the first time in the year now that activities across cohorts can proceed.
