From the Principal
We did it! We managed to complete three major sporting events in the last couple of weeks despite the closure of venues to host these.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Mr Mitchell and Mr Hyde and their respective staff teams who organised and executed the Year 3-6 Combined Campuses Athletics Carnival, the K-2 Cross Country and the Secondary Athletics Carnival. What a valiant effort from all those involved. Thank you. Our students showed great courage and determination as they competed in various events and the house spirit was alive and well at all three events.
Two communications were sent to families this week to inform our Community of Mrs Clay’s intention to retire at the end of this year. Mrs Clay is an exceptional educator who has had a stellar leadership career having served 21 years at RJ as our Head of Secondary and most recently, our Deputy Principal. We will have a chance to honour her investment in our School later in the year.
The other announcement was the appointment of Mr Maxwell as our new Head of Secondary. I look forward to Mr Maxwell’s leadership as he takes the opportunity to focus on developing initiatives aligned to the School’s future Strategic Plan for our Secondary Section and the wellbeing of both staff and students.
One of the most powerful and significant aspects of our RJ Community is the diversity of our ethnic groups. With over 35 different nationalities represented within our community, we are certainly a reflection of the Australia’s multicultural society. This Thursday in the Secondary Section we will host the Secondary Heritage Festival. It will be a kaleidoscopic display of colour as our students come to School dressed in their national dress.
Each year at this time, I’m reminded how awesome our students are as they proudly display their ethnic heritage and warmly welcome and support others from different cultures other than their own. Our students truly know how to embrace multiculturalism without any sense of competition or intimidation. When I think of this sense of unity, my mind travels to the Scripture in Revelations 7:9, “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…”
What a fabulous School and Community we are privileged to be a part of. I am looking forward to celebrating with our students this week as we celebrate our differences and similarities.
God Bless,
Mr Alan Dawson | Principal
