From the Principal

RJ Spring Festival – What a magnificent display of synergy and collaboration! As I walked around the Oakhurst Campus on September 17, I was so proud of what our Parent Festival Project Team had accomplished.
The team consisted of parents from both the Marsden Park and Oakhurst Campuses and was lead by our Head of Enterprise and Culture, Mrs Stephanie Ghali. My sincere thanks go to Mr Ben Potts, Mrs Danielle Sainsbury, Mrs Erin Stokes, Mrs Gillian Skinner, Mrs Maritsa Pretorius and Mr Paul Hallam for their tenacity and contributions in making the day such an amazing day!
It was also pleasing to see so many of our families from both Campuses patronising the event through their attendance on the day with their beautiful families. It was lovely that we were able to host such an event that brought our families from both campuses together, many of which had never been to our Oakhurst site before. Thank you to everyone who attended and made the day such a brilliant event to come together.
We also finished Term 3 with a wonderful celebration of our Year 12 HSC students’ time at RJ and now continue to support them through prayer as they undertake their final HSC examinations over the next 2-3 weeks. We would also like to congratulate Russell G (Y12) for being nominated for possible inclusion in InTech, the annual exhibition of outstanding Major Projects developed by HSC Industrial Technology students.
A number of these projects will be selected for Shape 2022, the combined exhibition of HSC Technology projects at the Powerhouse, Ultimo, Sydney from 3 March to 21 May 2023. Congratulations Russell of your fine work being nominated!
Our Primary Musical production of Disney’s The Lion King Jnr was a massive success. With over 50 students involved on stage and many more utilised in the back stage and technical side, the show was a credit to the magnificent effort of our staff in providing this wonderful opportunity for our Primary aged students. A big thanks to the show’s director and producer, Miss Shannon-Duhigg and Miss Kate Ross, for leading our staff through this delightful project.
Our new in-coming Year 12 student leaders were announced at the end of Term 3 at the Year 12 Graduation Assembly. Congratulations to Kisna P and Lailani W (School Captains), Elijah S and Shanice C (School Vice Captains) who will lead our student leadership team of around 24 leaders. All portfolios were announced last week with all the new leaders taking part in an Honour Assembly in a couple of weeks’ time where they will receive their leadership badges. We have a highly capable group of Year 12 to carry on the leadership of our student body and look forward to the great things they will achieve.
As we continue to build our Performing Arts program in the School across both campuses, it was exciting to see our young musicians and singers from Primary and Secondary perform at the three Soloist and Ensembles Concerts that we hosted last week. Learning an instrument is a true gift and a great way to learn many life changing habits and dispositions. Research also points to it being an essential part of developing executive functioning skills (more on that another time). If you would like your child to learn an instrument, please contact our Director of Performing Arts on [email protected]

Historically, Term 4 certainly picks up momentum and before we know it we are into the final week of Presentation Events. It would serve families well to note the dates for our Presentation Events at the end of the term: Marsden Park Primary Presentation Event – Monday 5 December @ 1pm in the COLA at Marsden Park Campus; Oakhurst Primary Presentation Event – Wednesday 7 December @ 1pm in the Oakhurst Hall; and the Secondary Presentation Event – Thursday 8 December @ 1pm in the Oakhurst Hall. We look forward to seeing any parents who are able to attend these events.
Last Friday, we welcomed our North West Mission Team back to Sydney after spending nine days away in Moree and the surrounding area. A team of 19 students from Years 9 to 11 were accompanied by Mr Rowe, Ms Mahaffey, Mr Hyde and Mrs Reed. They reported having an incredible time ministering and working with children from the indigenous communities and also the local youth from the Anglican Church in Moree. (Please refer to Mr Rowe’s account of the trip in this edition of the RJ Review).
As our Year 4 students wait in anticipation for their Pyjamarama event this Friday, Year 10 students prepare for their end of year exams next week and our Primary students start getting excited for the beginning of their Swim School sessions starting next week, we are all looking forward to the fantastic learning opportunities that our students will undertake over the next 8 weeks of school as we lead up to my favourite time of the year – Christmas! (Too soon?)
God Bless,
Mr Alan Dawson | Principal
